The 18-year-old from Rochester Hills teamed with the veteran racer from the same town to win Day 4 of the 2003 Detroit Six Day, presented by the NAS-TRACK Madison Racing League and held at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills, Michigan on Friday, Aug. 22.
Christopher Hughes and Tony Bruley broke away from the field and racked up 16 points when they lapped all seven teams. They finished the night with 39 points, five ahead of second place finishers Rob Good of Toronto and Nick Lawton of Rochester Hills. Third went to Dave Koesel of Livonia and his partner Dave Teal of Toledo, Ohio.
Bruley’s win earned him enough points to pass Koesel in the overall point standings for the A division racers, which is how the winner of the six day will be determined. Bruley now leads by a scant three points.
In the AA division, Nick Lawton of Rochester Hills has a commanding lead over most of the competition, with Cullen Watkins of Royal Oak in second and Wayne Cook of Mt. Clemens in third. The winners of the six days of racing will be determined based on points in each division A and AA ’s.
Racing continues at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills.
