Day 6 -Detroit 6 Day
Sink, Cook don't let it get away
Sunday 24th of August 2003

Wayne Cook jumped away from the field halfway through the last sprint in the bike race to create a gap that sprinting partner Ronnie Sink expanded, to then throw Cook back in to finish it off and win the final day of racing Sunday, August. 24 of the Detroit 6 Day, Presented by the NAS-TRACK Madison Racing League at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park.

The win was a vindication for the previous day’s racing that saw Cook and Sink, also teamed, race aggressive but goof up their timing so that a tired Cook was sprinting against a field of freshly throw in racers. That Day, the team placed overall.

The finish moved Cook up to third place among the Division AA racers and solidified Sink’s third place overall status. The winners of the entire six days of racing, the first in Detroit in more than 25 years, were Dave Koesel of Livonia and Nick Laughton of Rochester Hills. (See related story) More than 1000 spectators attended over the course of the six days.
