The IVBP 2011 Season has ended
2011 was another exciting and very
successful season at the IVBP but the stable of IVBP track bikes have
moved to their 58° sub-terrainium storage, the daylight hours have grown
short and season has come to an end. We look back on the year with
National titles world titles. At the U.S. Junior Nationals, our Juniors
brought home 15 medals.
Even though the season of regular programs has come to an end, t he velodrome is available to ride by season pass holders, with their own "track" bicycle, as weather
permits, from 10:00 a.m.
till the closing of the park. The velodrome is closed if it is wet or has snow or ice on it.
Special practice days will be announced via the Velodrome's Yahoo Group.
General Information about IVBP
The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park is a facility for
all ages at all stages. A crew of dedicated volunteers run the day to day
operations of the Velodrome which was paid for by private donations through the non-profit Mike Walden Velodrome
Fund administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. The
Velodrome was built by volunteers consisting of members of the cycling
community, many of whom had never seen a cycling track before, came out to build
the steel and wood structure. Volunteer welders, carpenters, earth movers,
children, adults and senior citizens worked side-by-side, week-after-week to a
grand conclusion. The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park is located in Bloomer Park in the City of Rochester Hills,
Michigan and is the only one of its kind in North America.
In nine seasons of cycling, hundreds of racers
have taken to the boards, thousands of youngsters have visited and many have
ridden, while nearly half a million television viewers saw bike racing on the Velodrome and every summer Friday night hundreds of spectators arrive at The
Velodrome at Bloomer Park, open up their lawn chairs and cheer on their favorite
racers for NAS-TRACK Team Racing. This showcase event at the Velodrome was
developed by Dale Hughes to captivate the public with fast-paced, daring, racing
format and to develop the sport and the racers in it. Two of the
"hottest" junior racers in the country learned their skills - and race
regularly - at The Velodrome at Bloomer Park. Several of the country's best female
racers are from the The Velodrome at Bloomer Park, earning numerous
national championship jerseys. The racing format is a success and still, day in
and day out, one 76 year old man rides for fitness around the 1/8 mile / 200
meter Velodrome.
The must have for any season is the beautiful and very practical IVBP Pint Glass. The
glasses are available at the Velodrome for $15 with proceeds to support
the many programs at the IVBP.

Thanks to Erika Fulk for creating this IVBP Pint
glass based on the original art work from the design house of Jeffery G.
Russell.

What is a
NAS-TRACK Madison
Race?
Two rider teams where one team rider is down low on the track in
the race while their partner is riding relief high on the track. About every 2
to 2½ laps the relief rider drops down the track, puts their left hand at their
left hip. Their partner grabs their hand and slings them into the race at speeds
of 40 mph and above. By the way, this is done on fixed gear (single speed, no
freewheeling) bicycle.
