What is a
NAS-TRACK Madison
Race?
Two rider teams where one team rider is down low on the track in
the race while their partner is riding relief high on the track. About every 2
to 2½ laps the relief rider drops down the track, puts their left hand at their
left hip. Their partner grabs their hand and slings them into the race at speeds
of 40 mph and above. By the way, this is done on fixed gear (single speed, no
freewheeling) bicycle.

Now Open for the Season
The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park
is open for the 2009 season. We have a fantastic program for 2009. New for this year is our joining forces with the Michigan Bike Racing Association. We
have two races on the track that will gain points for riders in the MBRA Point Series.
We will also have our first 'Official State Track Championships.
Back again is our popular Friday night NAS-TRACK MADISON SERIES!
Also bigger and better will be the UIV/NAS-TRACK 3 DAY and the
Americane' Vintage Track & Road
Bike Festival. Last year's 3 day was
UNBELIEVABLE, filled with action and speed. So mark those dates on your calendar.
Three riders who raced our 3 Day traveled to Europe this year and had great results - Austin Carroll won a 3 Day U23
Madison in Germany and Colby Pearce and Dan Holloway rode three PRO 6 DAYS - Dortmund,
Germany - Zuidlaren, Netherlands and Zurich, Switzerland. In fact in Zurich they were
recognized as the fans favorite team. So our track is producing INTERNATIONAL RIDERS! Colby
and Dan also placed 8th at the Worlds in the Madison.
Kacey Manderfield, in addition to winning the U.S. National Points Race
Championship, is going over to the Manchester Velodrome in England and racing well during their famous Revolution Track Series also.
New this year will be a USA Cycling Madison Camp for riders from across the USA.
The camp sessions are during the day while our DETROIT 6 DAY is going on at
night.

The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is a facility for
all ages at all stages. A crew of dedicated volunteers run the day to day
operations of the Velodrome which was paid for by private donations through the non-profit Mike Walden Velodrome
Fund administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. The
Velodrome was built by volunteers consisting of members of the cycling
community, many of whom had never seen a cycling track before, came out to build
the steel and wood structure. Volunteer welders, carpenters, earth movers,
children, adults and senior citizens worked side-by-side, week-after-week to a
grand conclusion. The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is located in Bloomer Park in the City of Rochester Hills,
Michigan and is the only one of its kind in North America.
In seven seasons of cycling, hundreds of racers
have taken to the boards, thousands of youngsters have visited and many have
ridden, while nearly half a million television viewers saw bike racing on the
Velodrome and every summer Friday night hundreds of spectators arrive at The
Velodrome at Bloomer Park, open up their lawn chairs and cheer on their favorite
racers for NAS-TRACK Team Racing. This showcase event at the Velodrome was
developed by Dale Hughes to captivate the public with fast-paced, daring, racing
format and to develop the sport and the racers in it. Two of the
"hottest" junior racers in the country learned their skills - and race
regularly - at The Velodrome at Bloomer Park. Two of the country's best female
racers are from the The Velodrome at Bloomer Park, one recently earned three
national championship jerseys. The racing format is a success and still, day in
and day out, one 74 year old man rides for fitness around the 1/8 mile / 200
meter Velodrome.
