Interested
in racing at The Velodrome at Bloomer Park? Contact Dale Hughes at dale@nas-track.com
for more information. If you have never ridden a velodrome or it has been a long
time since you have ridden a velodrome, you will first
need to participate in the "Track 101
Class" This class helps you safely learn the track etiquette and
velodrome bike handling skills. Participating in the Race Training on Wednesday evenings will help hone your
skills at racing speed. For Elite Riders, Tuesday evening is for preparing for
the US National Track Championships - Junior, Collegiate & Elite. The Madison Team Racers enjoy sharing / teaching the
step by step technique of successful Madison exchanges and race tactics with new riders.
Generally, riders are divided in to two racing groups, "A" and
"AA". The difference being speed, not skill level. The "A"
riders will be the faster of the two groups.
Spectators cheer their favorite riders and enjoy the exciting racing from the grassy hillside overlooking the Velodrome. Many fans arrive early with their lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners to watch the riders warm-up and make sure they are able to stakeout their favorite spot to watch the races. Live music is provided by the "Pit Crew" band playing from the bandstand at the along side the entrance to Turn 3. For the riders, it is the ultimate interval event, 30 - 40 seconds going flat out, then they "Sling" their partner into the race. Their turn to rest for 30 - 40 seconds while their partner pushes the field and then slung back into the race, repeat over again and again for 80 or more laps. At times the pace of the riders will exceed 40 m.p.h. on their fixed gear single speed bikes. The riders will race with a different partner each Friday evening. Race Results
Don't miss the 2009 Americane' Vintage Track & Road Bike Festival at The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park Saturday July 3rd.
(USA Cycling Event Flyer) NAS-TRACK Madison Team Racing once a week is just not enough for many of the riders and fans. The Detroit 6-Day fills the need for speed by doing the Friday Night Series 5 nights and an afternoon in a row (Tuesday through Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon - August 10 - 15). Who will prevail in this grueling event? New teams will be paired up each evening. 6-day racing, such as this, is very popular in Europe and from the 1890's to World War II was one of the biggest sporting events in the United States. Release
Form
An "Accident Waiver and
Release of Liability" form must be completed and given to a velodrome
official prior to riding the velodrome. You may print this release
form and
fill it out before coming to the track or you may obtain and fill one out at the
velodrome. Riders under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian
co-sign the release. We encourage parents to be at the velodrome with their
